The Owners

Pleased to meet you. We are Julia and Sjoerd, the owners of the cottage. We have 2 little kids; Tom (7) and Kim (5).

My husband Sjoerd and I built the cottage in 2007 and it has been a vacation rental since 2008.

Sjoerd was born and raised in Holland. After he visited the island during his teens he knew for sure he wanted to return to live here. He did so about 14 years ago, we met, fell in love and have been living together happily ever since.

Sjoerd operates the tennis programs at the high-rise hotels. He also founded the non profit "Sports for Life" foundation which brings street tennis programs to the kids on the island through local social centers and schools for their after-hours curriculum. He also brought "Beach Tennis" to the island and helped bring it to the States. Through Active Events he organizes team building events, such as Beach Olympics, Outdoor Races etc.

I (Julia) was born on Curacao of dutch parents, but grew up here on Aruba. We moved to Aruba when I was 3 months. I went to school here, and in my last year of high school started Boardwalk Vacation Retreat, as well as a windsurfing/kitesurfing business called Fiberworks, with my partner Geert. I continue to be involved with these as well as other projects.

We love nature and the outdoors and think this is a great place for our kids to grow up. It is our intention to build our dream home on this lot, and the cottage is part of that plan. The cottage will actually be attached to the main house and is a part of that dream home. We intend to continue running the cottage as a vacation rental, maybe in the form of a B&B, by then.
